Should You Outsource Daily Chores?

One question we’ve all asked ourselves when we’re faced with a mountain of chores is ‘Can’t someone else do it?’

Well, yes they can – and it’s important to realise that it doesn´t make you lazy to rely on others. Learning how to delegate tasks is key to creating more time for yourself, both at work and in your personal life. The challenge is just in learned to snap out of the attitude that if you want something done right then you have to do it yourself.

Snapping yourself out of that self-reliant routine can be hard for some people, however. It´s usually strongly connected to misconceptions about needing to be a perfect mother, a real man, or an overall good person. These notions and stereotypes sometimes stop us from channelling our inner Homer Simpson and asking that most freeing of questions: ‘Can’t someone else just do it?’

Maybe there are tasks at home you can delegate to your children? It can be a great learning experience for them. Maybe one of your employees at work are ready to take on more responsibilities? Analyze your situation and find creative ways to outsource the tasks you don’t want to do.

Learning the gentle art of letting someone else just do it is not about lacking work ethic. It is part of the grown up skill set needed to have more time for the important things in life. So be sure to cultivate this skill and incorporate it into your life.

Sometimes letting someone else just do it involves spending a bit of money. The possibilities to outsource chores are great in london. Besides Laundrapp, there are services such as Deliveroo and Bizzby to help your do away with chores such as cooking and cleaning.

If you’d rather not pay someone else to tackle your chores then it’s always worth taking a closer look at your spending and priorities too, as there may be ways to reallocate your resources. Not all activities are possible to outsource, so the ones that are may be worth the money spended.

If you need more convincing then one solution suggested by well-known time-management expert Timothy Ferris is to get your hourly rate by cutting the last three zeros off your annual salary, then halving that number. If you make £60,000 a year, your hourly rate is £30, and if it takes you three hours to clean the house each week, that’s £90 worth of your time. Getting a rough estimation of what your time is worth might be helpful to see the situation clearly.
