You might by now know when…
–
– In the early hours of October 29th, 2018, the clocks will change from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time. ⌚️
– As a result, we get an extra hour in bed but lose an hour of sunlight ?
– The clocks change in the last weekend of March and October every year in the UK ?
– The easiest way to remember the changes is probably: spring forward – fall back ?
– The nights are getting darker and the clocks are set to change
–
But did you ever really know why?
– Some say Benjamin Franklin first had the idea to change the clocks while he was in Paris in 1784 ?
– He suggested that if people got out of bed an hour earlier, they’d get extra daylight ☀️
– Others say it was in place even without Benjamin’s input, but with the same principles. Conserving energy ?
– But did you know it wasn’t properly introduced in the UK until 1916 ? ??
–
Well, whatever the original reason, we’re just grateful we’re at the right end of the time-saving this time around ? Enjoy your extra hour’s kip.
