London Christmas Events 2016

Christmas is coming, you can’t deny it. This time of year can be a busy period but push present buying and food preparation out of your mind for a while and have a bit of holiday fun at these amazing Christmas events.

1. Skate at Somerset House


For some fantastic festive fun ice skating at Somerset House is a must! A 40 foot Christmas tree and an 18th century courtyard will give you the wonderful feelings of Christmases gone by. If that’s not your thing, then try one of the Club Nights where you can enjoy popular DJs and open-air clubbing on and off the ice.

2. Victoria And Albert’s Christmas Carol

The V&A honours its patrons Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in this wonderful festive event. As Queen Victoria talks to herself she is transported back to her husband in the Christmas of 1843 where there are stories, dancing and carols (of course).  The show was written and directed by Dominic Gerrard and is sure to be a blast for all who attend.

3. Hogwarts in the Snow at Warner Bros. Studio

attend the Launch Of Hogwarts In The Snow at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London on November 12, 2015 in Watford, England.

As the season changes so does the Warner Bros. Studio tour, the Harry Potter experience more specifically.  Yes, you can see Hogwarts in the snow (well granulated paper and salt) and view the Great Hall while it’s all decorated for Christmas with trees, turkeys and puddings. A definite must do for any Harry Potter fan!

4. Christmas Market at Tate Modern


This Christmas market returns once more, placed between the Tate Modern and Thames you can browse handcrafted wooden toys, unbelievable jewellery and amazing decorations.  You’ll also be able to enjoy festive treats like crêpes, bratwurst and a cup of glühwein! This market is sure to put you in the festive mood.

5. Christmas at Kew 2016

Christmas at Kew 2016 Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Experience a new world of wonder with the brightly coloured magic of the gardens this Christmas. Watch laser beams dance across the water, smell mesmerising scents from the Fire Garden and get lost in the beauty of the tunnel of lights. And of course, Santa and the elves will be at the North Pole village with vintage rides and a traditional festive fare.

6. Real Food Christmas Market

The Real Food Market is a weekly feature at the Southbank Centre but it’s getting festive as Christmas fast approaches. It promises to have a vast range of seasonal delights such as charcuterie, wild game, cheeses, chutneys, cakes, and chocolates and of course some mince pies and mulled wine. The best news is there is a taste before you buy policy so this is the sort of shopping anyone can get behind.

7. Sail with Santa on the Thames

Sail with Santa

A great day out full of family fun. Don’t visit Santa in a grotto, see him while you’re tearing down the Thames.  Let your kids tell Santa all their Christmas wishes and enjoy cookies and soft drinks, while you get merry with some mulled wine and a mince pies.

8. Selvedge Advent Festival

This festival is great for anyone who would rather make a loving present then just simply buy one. There are tons of textile events and workshops for you to enjoy and channel your inner Christmas elf. If you really want to get in the swing of things then there is block-print wrapping paper making sessions and even a workshop in the art of Hungarian hand-cut felt appliqué.

9. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland


Of course we couldn’t have a list of Christmas events and not mention the biggest one in the city, Winter Wonderland! You’ve heard of it and probably been before but it’s always a fun evening out. Enjoy rides, Christmas carnival games, live music and a drink on the carousal bar at this London festive staple. You’ve probably already been once this year, haven’t you?
